Educational Investment

The Southend Campus is a joint further and higher education campus in the heart of Southend-on-Sea.  South East Essex College and the University of Essex offer a single ladder of educational progression from A-levels and BTECs through to Foundation, Honours and Masters degrees and PhDs.  The venture brings together a respected top ten research-based university with a successful and innovative further education college to offer high-quality education and research.
 
South East Essex College is one of the largest Colleges in the East of England, with a long and successful track record in further education. The College provides a high quality educational experience to learners of all ages, from 14-19 year olds to undergraduates, adults and businesses. The College’s Higher Education provision is validated by the University of Essex and Foundation and Honours degrees are available at the College in a range of subjects including Art and Design, Computing, Education, Journalism, Media and Sports Studies. The courses are vocationally-orientated, developed in conjunction with local employers and industry practitioners to give the best possible grounding for a related career.
 
The University of Essex joined the College on the Southend Campus in 2006 with the opening of the University’s Gateway Building. Higher education facilities are available for students on undergraduate and postgraduate courses within three schools: Essex Business School, Health and Human Sciences and East 15 Acting School. The Gateway Building is complemented by the University of Essex’s Clifftown Studios, a converted church that provides studios and theatre space for the East 15 Acting School.
 
The Business Hub at the University’s new Southend Campus is a purpose built facility that can offer you and your organisation a wide range of support services, all of which are specifically designed to deliver a sustainable, successful business culture. There is access to specialist support, advice and training, including expert on-site short courses to help you continuously improve your business. A unique feature of the University’s new business facility is the inspirational i-lab, a concept space designed to motivate and encourage liberating, inventive and creative thinking. The Gateway Building also hosts a Business Incubation Centre (BIC) which provides space and support for start up or growing businesses.
 
Prospects (Futures) College in Southend is a provider of vocational training in South Essex and the Thames Gateway region. With over 35 years experience of working in partnership with businesses they deliver a range of innovative training courses and apprenticeships to meet the skills requirements of the community. A new joint venture between Prospects College and a local secondary school offers a unique blend of academic and vocational education to 11-19+ year olds. Pupils and businesses alike will benefit from the apprenticeships, skills and qualifications offered by the new community college.
